Promenade Opera Project Returns To Juliet With Two Events This Spring!
Their May 8th Gala, “Backstage Pass”, in support of this summer’s immersive production of Cinderella (a retelling of Massenet’s French opera, Cendrillon), will be preceded by a more casual opportunity to dine to the backdrop of classic and contemporary opera.
Promenade Opera Project is no stranger to Juliet. Prior to the opening of their first ever production last summer, Justice Or Mercy (a modern, immersive, adaptation of La Clemenza di Tito) the theater company to be performed and enveloped the full room into a sing along of contemporary and classic pop covers.
Following this, Promenade played a climactic role in the final scene of Juliet’s five day long immersive storytelling experiment, These Wild Apples: a genre bending and media mixing performance that involved strolling the streets of Somerville, audience and musical accompaniment in tow, traveling backward and forward through time and across continents, casting a vocal spell along the way.
This year, Promenade Opera Project has again teamed up with Juliet to announce their second ever production, another summertime sojourn, this time adapting Cinderella (a musical retelling of Massenet’s Cendrillon in French), to their redefined immersive opera “stage”.
Performances by Promenade Opera Project invite the audience to not just sit and witness but to coexist alongside, and participate in, the action which plays out all around them. Tickets and location information for Cinderella will be announced at the May 8th Gala at Juliet. Attendees will have first access to reserve their spot in the show, which will be very limited once made public.
The May 8th gala will include dinner at Juliet, vocal performances and other previews of the forthcoming Cinderella (August 2018), meet and greets with the founders, cast and crew, and a look deep behind the scenes at how this group of young opera professionals seeks to redefine the genre for a new generation, and generations to come. Juliet’s service staff will take the night off, and the opera performers themselves will serve dinner.
The gala is a ticketed event, link below. Ticket prices, beginning at $150.00 are inclusive of service (no tips are expected), and the majority of the proceeds from the evening will directly finance the work of this exciting and experimental work by this still young company, who are in the process of seeking non profit status as they work to develop and mentor up and coming artists in this uncompromising genre of performance.
Prior to the May 8th gala, curious individuals will have two opportunities to meet and witness the work of Promenade Opera Project at Juliet over dinner at Juliet, without additional charge.
